Remembering Charles Palmore - July 9, 2017

Charles, a professional bass player and vocalist,  was born and reared in the Birmingham, Alabama area. He began singing at an early age learning guitar and piano, eventually switching to bass guitar in his teens. He won several talent shows in high school, singing and playing piano often imitating Ray Charles. During this time he began to play bass and sing with local bands in the area.

He eventually played with opening acts for artists such as Jackie Wilson, James & Bobby Purify, Lou Rawls, Z.Z. Hill, Joe Tex, The Commodores, Little Richard, James Brown, and Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles. In 1967, Charles joined Bill Pinkney's Original Drifters and intermittently toured with them until the late 80's.

In 1989 he moved west to join his brother, John Palmore, forming the Palmore Brothers Band in Reno, Nevada, where he entertained audiences for more than 20 years.

Charles was greatly admired by musicians and fans for his soulful vocals and unique and innovative bass guitar style.
